Last June, devastated by the crypto crash, Voyager filed for bankruptcy in a New York court. To help this crypto broker, Alameda Research will repay the $200 million it took from Voyager as a loan. A cryptocurrency loan due September 2021 for up to $380 million.
A big loan in crypto
In the loan terms filed, payments will be made exclusively in cryptocurrency. An amount split into 6,553 Bitcoins and 51,204 Ethers. Those numbers are worth $128 million and $70 million, respectively. Seven other tokens complete the $200 million.
Instead, Voyager will have to return the collateral in the form of 4.65 million FTX tokens (FTT) and 63.75 million Sera (SRM) tokens. That’s $160 million. Refunds must be made by September 30, 2022! Note that this crypto broker started auctioning its assets from the beginning of this month. Aim: To be able to repay its customers.
Liquidation Voyager: Possible Purchase Offer?
Despite the private status of the bidders in Voyager’s auction offer, FTX and Alameda disclosed cash offers to Voyager’s creditors. Rumors spread quickly after learning that Alameda already had the status of Voyager’s largest shareholder (11.56%). They will confirm the potential purchase of Voyager by Alameda Research and FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried. A rumor quickly denied by Voyager, qualifying the statements as “misleading or outright false”.
Thanks to this loan, Voyager will be able to recover from the collapse of the global cryptocurrency market at the beginning of summer 2022. A decline that led to its bankruptcy. All interests in Voyager’s return to the race are at risk of being purchased by Alameda-FTX.
