The tech giant has announced its next rebrand to take the name “Meta”.
With Facebook’s dive into the Metaverse, a virtual reality space where users can interact with each other in a computer-generated environment, the tech giant has announced its upcoming rebrand to adopt the name “Meta.”
The announcement was made by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg at last Thursday’s Connect 2021 event, who said: “Today we are considered a social media company. But in our DNA, we are a company that creates technology to connect people, and Metaverse is the next frontier to cross, just as social networks were when we started”.
Facebook will not enter the field. Other companies such as Roblox (games), Unity Software Inc. (games), and Microsoft (software) have their own plans for Metaverse. Investors can gain quick exposure to the metaverse with the Roundhill Ball Metaverse ETF, or META, from Roundhill Investments. The fund invests in publicly traded companies that actively participate in the metaverse, including companies that build infrastructure, deliver game engines, and revolutionize digital commerce, content, and social experiences.
