It was a meeting of two worlds that at first glance had little in common. One is purely physical, the other is purely digital. However, football and new technologies are available through football stars who bet on start-ups. Already a business angel for several years, Blaise Matuidi recently launched Origin, his investment fund. The midfielder, who left for Inter in Miami two years ago, where he lives, has embraced the country’s mentality. In the United States, athlete training is always conducted alongside entrepreneurial training. Athletes naturally become players in the business economy.
What Blaise Matuidi is doing now, according to him, is the same passion. His will to win on the football field is like a business. This is what he wants to transmit widely to the youngest, while making people dream on this entrepreneurial path, as much as the ball on their feet. Origins aims to bring more than money to entrepreneurs. Influence, marketing and communication are also part of the support provided and selected projects are more general public.
Football and Tech
More and more footballers are interested in business and more specifically in technology. Many participate in start-ups. This sports population, which is rather young, is naturally attuned to digital technology. Great successes like Antoine Griezmann and his winning bet on Sorare, who has since become a unicorn, are emulated and create desire. The image of footballers is also a winner for the companies they invest in. Their power of influence is significant and their digital practice in this area is well established.
